It is 12 miles East of Brooksville. The city has a total area of 1.1 square miles and as of July 1, 2017 and the city has only 13 residents.

Weeki Wachee offers experiences of the Sunshine State at its natural best. It has water and land adventures and attractions with the Weeki Wachee Preserve and Weeki Wachee Springs Park consists of 12,000 + acres. The park includes rides, animal show, mermaid shows and manatee watching!

At Weeki Wachee Spring State Park You can rent canoes and kayaks or bring your own and can either paddle or just relax for a great three-hour float down 5.5 miles of the tranquil, crystal-clear Weeki Wachee River. It will totally and completely take your breath away with its unspoiled natural beauty and wildlife. Most of the journey will be underneath the shade of cypress and oak trees, and of course, Florida’s distinctive palms. Along the way, you may find yourself paddling alongside the gentle West Indian manatees. You may also see turtles, otters, storks, and pelicans, and underwater marine life in water so clear, you’d swear you were in an aquarium!

 

In 1946, a former U.S. Navy man by the name of Newton Perry, found that Weeki Wachee as a good site for a new business. Back in 1946, U.S. 19 was a small two-lane road. All the other roads were dirt; there were no gas stations, no groceries, and no movie theaters. There was more wildlife that lived there than humans!

Weeki Wachee Springs State Park if one of Florida’s oldest attractions that have been entertaining people since 1947. The Springs are one of the deepest, naturally formed underwater caverns in the U.S. Weeki Wachee was named by the Seminole Indians. It means “little spring” or “winding river.” The spring is so deep that the bottom has never been found. Each day, more than 117 million gallons of clear, fresh 74-degree water bubbles up out of subterranean caverns.
